Pakistan again expresses concern over drone attacks
ISLAMABAD, Jun 25 (APP): Pakistan Thursday expressing its serious concerns over the continued drone attacks said these are not acceptable and must be stopped as these are counter productive.“Pakistan’s position on this issue is very clear, as these drone attacks are counterproductive and have more disadvantages than the advantages,” said Foreign Office spokesman Abdul Basit at his weekly briefing here.
The spokesman stressed the need for reviewing the whole policy of drone attacks by the United States. He said, “We would continue to convey the concern of the people of Pakistan to the US.”
The spokesman said, “Our security operations in Swat and other areas are proceeding very well and successfully.”
Replying to a question the spokesman said Pakistan seriously believed that composite dialogue is in the interest of both India and Pakistan.
He said, “This (composite dialogue process) is unavoidable for durable peace and prosperity in the region and for the benefit of both the countries.”
He said Pakistan was proceeding in the matter of Mumbai attacks effectively and methodically.
Replying to the water issue with India, the spokesman expressed the hope that there will be some concrete developments in this regard in October/November this year.
He said the Water Commissions of India and Pakistan met this month and discussed the issue in detail and the next meeting of the two commissions will be held in October or November this year.
The spokesman said Pakistan and India are in touch with each other to settle the issue through diplomatic channels.
Replying to a question about arrest warrants issued by Indian court for certain individuals presently in custody of Government of Pakistan, he said,
“We have not yet received any communication from any quarters with regards to these arrested or these unbailable warrants of certain individuals.”
“When it comes we will then see as to what our response should be,” the spokesman added.
Answering a question, he said, the issue of deployment of additional US troops in Afghanistan near Pakistan’s border will be raised with the US administration.
He said the issue would also be raised with the visiting US National Security Advisor General James Jones during his meetings with Pakistani leadership.

The spokesman said Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has gone to Italy to attend a meeting on Afghanistan.
